This time allowed me to focus on my projects and take on the new challenge of working with a loom. I was fortunate to learn from a great weaving master in town, Mustapha, who also became a dear friend. Together with Mouna, we collaborated on many wonderful things in Sefrou. Culture Vultures gave me the chance to teach weaving, which I integrated into my work. I designed a costume using wool, inspired by eye-tracking patterns centered on the human body. Using a punch needle tool, I crafted these designs, incorporating long wool threads that moved dynamically as the wearer walked. This created an animalistic texture, prompting reflection on whether we saw others as human or animal, and how we observed one another. Our base is our sanctuary, where you keep on cultivating inside and outside of you. Back to what we call home. What does that mean for each of us? We will at all times protect it to this day. It reforms and refines you and it is a continuation of everything you’ll experience. My journey started during my stay at the La Wayaka residency in the driest place on earth called the Atacama desert. Where I discovered and found these connotations and nuances of the land that I've visited. There, I found tons of Mica gemstones in the Moon Valley area. The Atacama desert is sacredly described and protected by the indigenous Lican Antay people, who have shown us this magical terra (aka mother earth) and how she is always with us. To believe that it is important for us to preserve our base and be sentient to ourselves. Mica is known for its properties of protection and symbolizes among other things like homesickness. It has led me to create houses made of the clay that I found in the dried-up river near our abode in the desert. The show Hatch will showcase the wing stretching of the fledgling artist in a three days show with a program of events, performance, and exhibition at the Volkshotel." // Within this installation, I present a body that embodies internal experiences and sensations,influenced by the affliction caused by negative associations and energies of people. The purpose is to externalize these experiences, preventing them from becoming trapped within the body and allowing them to flow freely. This process facilitates self-awareness and renewal, enabling an exploration of how one’s form can both shape and transform. The solitary body, acting as its own agent, generates and intertwines with a sense of trust and bonding with oneself. This is particularly relevant when navigating external experiences that consistently trigger stress and pain responses in our bodies,encompassing misinterpretations, anxiety, class,race, and intimacy conflicts. The essence lies in establishing the right balance of communication between the self and other life form. To remind us that the physicality of the human body, up to the present, remains irreproducible. A feeling of losing control, that causes a lack of the ability to provide conscious limitation of impulses and behavior as a result of overwhelming unease. She is questioning herself, what lays beyond our strength, and where do we have no control over?During her practice, she tries to seek what the causes are of self-alienation, and how can one work with it? She processes her alienation into an imaginative image where she tries to express it in a playful, humorous, yet uncanny way. For me, the estrangement with the body is essential to keep on dismantling and researching. Tools that allow me to create&nbsp;translations for my own alienation. A translation that can turn out to be a kind of psychological observation. To paint a better image, where I could translate it into something helpful, enchanting, and cheerful. To embrace it more. // With this piece, I aimed to evoke feelings of awe and estrangement, where the viewer encounters a being positioned uncomfortably.Through this encounter, the viewer and the being forge a connection, gradually making the situation comfortable—a rapprochement&nbsp;between them. The piece explores the dynamic between two beings collaborating: one initially embracing control, while the other&nbsp;gracefully relinquishes it. The position will revert back once the viewer leaves the installation, allowing the being to return to its original state. How do we look at people? Once we encounter one another, how do we observe and hold our attention? I became fascinated with the term "eye-tracking", a tool that shows how we respond to and look at things, making the patterns and lines created by our eyes visible. Through research and small experiments, I aimed to visualize these eye-tracking patterns, providing insight into how we observe each other. In the next phase, I focused on highlighting our internal responses. Inspired by the nervous system, which coordinates all our actions, I created pieces that seek to illuminate these processes. When external details fade, the internal components become visible through a glowing effect. How do we become aware of these limitations, and how can we learn to work with them? I collaborated with people who experience bodily restrictions, creating a collective project in which their stories and perspectives are shared. Many of these stories highlight the discovery of new openings, new perspectives, and different ways of experiencing quality of life. Through this work, I aim to translate bodily transformations that belong to us all. Chella GiphartMedium ········· Printing&nbsp;Published ······ 2024Language ······· Dutch GEZEGENDE BOEKETTEN OP SINT-JANSDAG EN MARIA HEMELVAART I designed a folder for Isabela Pombo Geertsma, based on research she conducted together with four other researchers. The folder describes a 2023 study on the Kroedwusj and Sint Janstros traditions in Limburg and North Brabant. The research repeats a 1930s study by Dr. Hendrik Uittien, who documented the plant species in these blessed bouquets. The team visited villages, joined plant-picking walks, interviewed people, and photographed thousands of bouquets. We chose this color theme because blue symbolizes Mary, and yellow represents the sun and Sint Janstros , and thus Sint Jan.
